About Course
GP Rating Course – Pathway to Second Mate (NCV)
The General Purpose (GP) Rating Course at the Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Mumbai, is a pre-sea training program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India. This 6-month residential course prepares candidates for a career at sea, combining academic instruction with practical skills required on board merchant vessels.
Upon successful completion of the pre-sea training, candidates are placed as trainee GP Ratings on ships operated by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI).
